Winter 2025 Vol. 5 No. 3
Most people aren’ t as social in the winter, thanks to the cold and inclement weather and the reduced daylight hours. But it’ s actually the perfect time to gather with friends at home— at their house or yours.
Consider“ Come Over October,” a recent movement to bring people together over wine created in 2024 by The Wine Bible author Karen MacNeil and industry public relations veterans Kimberly Noelle Charles and Gino Colangelo. The month-long campaign celebrates the positive role of wine— and mindful enjoyment— in fostering meaningful, in-person connections.
From casual get-togethers and neighborhood potlucks to themed tastings and Sunday suppers, people across the country have been embracing the spirit of Come Over October for the past two years. Why not carry this notion into the winter months?
It doesn’ t have to be all about wine, either. Think seasonal beers, ciders, themed cocktails, coffee drinks, spirit-free selections, etc.— whatever you’ re into. We have some holiday cocktail recipes on page 19, and our panel’ s picks for the best wines of 2025 on page 21.
You might try making some flavored syrups for drinks or techniques such as infusing and fat-washing spirits. For instance, the Core Values vodka cocktail recipe on page 7 uses a spiced apple cider and a fennel syrup.
This issue has plenty of other drink recipes, as well as tips on how to level up classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned and the Ramos Gin Fizz. We also have ideas for pairing dessert wines with desserts on page 18— now that would make for a fun gathering with friends!
And if you’ re dreaming of vacation, take a road trip down Route 66 via our special section starting on page 12. The famous road turns 100 in 2026, and we’ ve highlighted some of the unique attractions and food and beverage options along the original route. Cheers to getting your kicks this winter!
