INDUSTRY BEST PRACTICES

APRIL IS ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTH , which provides an opportunity for our industry to share programs and campaigns that ensure adult beverages are sold , marketed and consumed safely and responsibly . That includes new technology to prevent underage sales , encouraging designated drivers and other practices that prevent impaired driving , discourage overconsumption and more .
Alcohol Awareness Month has been organized by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence since 1987 , to increase outreach and education regarding the dangers of alcoholism and issues related to alcohol . The campaign originally targeted college-aged students , but has since grown to a national movement to help communities and families .
The beverage alcohol industry has long supported safe practices through its public service advertisements , educational materials at events and training programs . This guide provides an overview of some of those efforts , as well as initiatives run by control states , on-premise operators and off-premise retailers .
