What was your first job ? My first job in high school was driving the launch shuttle for Mary ’ s Landing - a small fuel dock / mooring coordinator on the North River in town . I had so much fun when I was working that job , most of my day consisted of ferrying people to and from their boats . It was always great to chat with folks during the ride , whether they were excited to get on the water and go fishing , or just getting back from anchoring their boat off the beach at the end of the river . Did you have any key mentors or influences in your career ? My father , Peter , is far and away my greatest mentor and influence . He is a contractor and homebuilder , and I spent a lot of my time in high school and college working on different projects with him . He taught me so much about his trade , but more importantly he instilled his work ethic , and problem-solving skills in me , two traits that have certainly helped get me to where I am today .
My manager at Siren Marine , Marc Legault , is an incredibly important mentor and influence . Marc has taught me so much over the last couple of years- both about my career and myself . He has been an incredible person to bounce ideas off , solve complex problems with , and always brings a sense of humor into work with him .
Another person I need to mention is Dan MacIntyre , my manager when I was in San Diego . Dan taught me most everything that I know about boating , helped shape my troubleshooting technique , and prepared me for my captain ’ s license exams . Why should young professionals choose a career in the marine industry ? I think one of my favorite parts of working as a young adult in the marine industry is that the people you work with are so passionate about the boating world . The customers that you get the chance to work with , and a lot of the time your colleagues , are all so invested in boating and it creates an environment where people bring a lot of great energy to the table .
