in 2011 , my partner and I decided to take some time off to travel . We mapped where we wanted to visit and all locations we wanted to see were near water . Fishing , swimming and boating remain the top of my favorite activities . What accomplishment are you most proud of ? Personally , its my 20-plus year relationship and amazing 4-year-old son . Professionally , I am most proud of opening and running my own business . It was by far the hardest and most rewarding thing I have done in my career . It gave me a mindset for service and process that will never leave me . How do you set goals for yourself and set yourself up for success ? When I am setting a goal , I am always trying to determine the impact accomplishing it will have . A big driver for me is seeing a large impact either for myself and my own workload or for my team and guest satisfaction . Once I have determined that my intent will bring impactful results , I break the goal down into very easy steps , sometimes many small steps to accomplish a larger step , and set myself deadlines to review , and readjust if necessary . I have set many goals , that I have readjusted from original intent because the need changed . Being flexible with yourself and your needs is just as important as the result . Who was your hero as a child ? My grandmother . She was sure footed and steadfast . By example , she taught me to hold my head high despite all odds .
Why should young professionals choose a career in the marine industry ? What a fun path to take ! Being around water is most people ’ s idea of a vacation and we get to live it every day ! Not that the marine industry does not have its own challenges , but the challenges are great exercise for growth and skill expansion . I get to partner with the best and brightest in the industry and make a mark at my marina for the better .

Adam Greer

Senior Product Engineer & Engineering Manager , Nautique Boat Company
What first drew you to the marine industry ? My family grew up on the water and in Nautique boats , so it has been a part of my life from the beginning . As I got older , I began wakeboarding and spending all my free time on the water and eventually decided I wanted to combine my passion for watersports and boating into a career . What was your first job ? I was a bus boy and dishwasher at a local seafood restaurant . Did you have any key mentors or influences in your career ? Bill Snook , Eric Miller , and Steve Carlton have been big mentors over the years on the engineering side . They spent time explaining best practices and the good and bad of the past . There is also a lot of captured knowledge on all levels at Nautique , so there have been countless things I have learned
from Joe Burt , Ken Stafford , Lindley Blake , and Gary Cressman who represent our Model Integration , Prototyping , and Quality Teams . How do you hope to inspire others in the marine industry ? Oof , that ’ s a tough one . I have never thought of how I might inspire someone , I guess I would hope that the projects I have had the privilege to be a part of with our team would be something that is recognized for being different due to the effort and passion we put into it . Everyone here works really hard and I think that having projects you work on be recognized as something that inspires others in the industry is all you could hope for . Who was your hero as a child ? A few of our athletes were actually childhood heroes to me , so it is really cool to now get to work and collaborate with them on projects over the years . Why should young professionals choose a career in the marine industry ? The marine industry is a great place to work especially if you are a “ hands on ” person . I love a lot of the engineering process in this industry is hands on development and you get to wear a lot of hats . It keeps things interesting , fresh , and challenges you to learn more every day .
