As a young professional , what are the biggest challenges you ’ ve faced in the marine industry and how did you overcome them ? The marine industry faces several significant challenges , including misconceptions and biases that can hinder progress and innovation . One such challenge is the perception that success in the industry is based on who you know , rather than what you know . This can make it difficult for new players , especially those who lack existing relationships within the industry , to gain a foothold and make a positive impact . Additionally , there can be a reluctance to embrace new ideas or approaches , which can lead to stagnation and missed opportunities . It is crucial that we work to overcome these challenges and create an environment that is welcoming to all who seek to contribute to the industry . Who was your hero as a child ? My childhood hero is none other than Luke Skywalker . As a child , I was captivated by his bravery , determination , and unwavering commitment to the greater good . He represented the ultimate hero archetype , fighting against overwhelming odds and never giving up in the face of adversity . Through his trials and tribulations , he taught me important lessons about perseverance , self-sacrifice and the importance of fighting for what you believe in . Why should young professionals choose a career in the marine industry ? The marine industry has a rich history spanning thousands of years , but I believe that we are still at the early stages of its evolution . Despite its age , there is still a great deal of untapped potential for growth and innovation within the industry . I see the marine industry as one of the most promising areas for impact and progress , as it has the ability to make significant contributions to global society . The possibilities for growth and impact are truly endless , and I am excited to be a part of this dynamic and evolving industry . I believe that with the right mindset , resources , and dedication , the marine industry can continue to evolve and shape the world in a positive way for generations to come .

What first drew you to the marine industry ? My dad was an independent marine insurance agent , so I grew up going to boat shows and I always enjoyed being around boats and on the water . I didn ’ t intend to seek a job in maritime law , at first . After completing law school and passing the bar exam , I just needed a job ! I learned of a maritime firm in my area that was looking for a new attorney , so I interviewed and quickly fell in love with maritime law . Since then , I knew I wanted a long career in this area of law . What was your first job ? My first job was in a girls ’ retail store at the mall when I was in high school . What accomplishment are you most proud of ? Aside from this , I am proud of becoming an attorney , and balancing my career and raising children . I always wanted to be an attorney but did not expect to face so many challenges along the way . I ’ m most proud of maintaining a fulfilling career without sacrificing my role as a mom to my young kids . Thankfully , MarineMax truly values the importance of family , and allows its team members to prioritize family and still succeed at the company . As a young professional , what are the biggest challenges you ’ ve faced in the marine industry and how did you overcome them ? When I started my career in maritime law , it was challenging because I did not have the maritime background like so many of my colleagues . I didn ’ t want people to assume being young and green meant I didn ’ t bring value to the role . I immersed myself in everything maritime related ; from the lingo to understanding nautical charts , and the importance of maritime history ; all so I could prove to others ( and myself ) that I was an asset to my team . Most importantly , I quickly learned my seasoned colleagues were my most valuable resources ,
as they provided insight and experience that could not be gleaned from books or research . How do you hope to inspire others in the marine industry ? It can be intimidating for people who aren ’ t boaters to see themselves starting a career in this industry . I try to be a resource to those entering the workforce and / or looking to make a career change into our amazing industry . I aim to educate them about the industry and encourage them to explore the opportunities . Who was your hero as a child ? My parents were and still are my heroes . It ’ s hard to put into words the impact they have had on my life . I would not be who I am and where I am today without their constant love and support . They taught me to be independent , selfsufficient , resilient and happy . Their work ethic , deep faith , and dedication to our family are unmatched . Early in his career , my dad founded his agency and demonstrated how taking risks and hard work are the catalyst to successfully paving your own path . My mom showed me that being a successful working mom does not mean you have to sacrifice your career or time spent raising children . They continue to be an inspiration and support , both professionally and personally . I am so blessed to have them as parents , friends , and role models . Why should young professionals choose a career in the marine industry ? There are so many fulfilling career paths available in the industry that are vital to our society . The talented people in this industry are amazing and as cliché as it sounds , the possibilities are truly endless !
