Learning, leading and making waves

After reading about our 2025 Boating Industry Women Making Waves winners, I couldn’ t tell you how many times I read these words: network, learn, adapt, and support others.
I’ ve heard my sister use the same words. After a decade dedicated to the family business, Montana is taking the wheel at Hubbard Powersports with more than capable hands.
She’ s a resilient leader who has worked hard to prove her credibility, and her unique leadership and decision-making styles have helped shape the business into what it is today. Who she is as a leader reflects what she has learned from mentors and hard-earned lessons, her ability to adapt, and her perspective as a woman. Working with my dad for the past 10 years, their business relationship has evolved and strengthened through collaboration and trust.
That’ s what our Women Making Waves award is all about. We honor these professionals not because they are women, but because of the impact they’ re making across the industry through leadership, innovation, resilience and mentorship. And in doing so, we also celebrate the value of diversity within our industry.
“ Dive in and be a sponge. Learn as much as you can from your mentors, bosses, and peers. Don’ t be afraid to ask questions and offer ideas,” shared Christina Moore, VP and CFO of Sea Fox Boat Works and a 2025 Women Making Waves honoree.“ Your perspective is important and valued. And don’ t be afraid to break it. Break the system, break the old way of doing things, break literal parts for boats. It all leads to a better understanding and the next steps for improvement.”
I learned this lesson when I was working for our sister magazine, Powersports Business. I broke a tie rod at a press event and felt absolutely defeated. I was the only female rider. But this became a learning opportunity for me. I had to accept that I made a mistake and stay focused on what I needed to learn during the event so I could report to our readers later.( I’ ll admit I was relieved when I learned that other riders had broken parts too). And I’ m grateful for those hosting the event and the other riders who encouraged me.
The leaders we honor in this issue are passionate about encouraging the next generation of women, and their influence reaches even further. They are examples to all rising professionals. Real progress happens when we support each other’ s strengths, embrace new perspectives, and grow together.
Watching my sister grow in her career, I have a deeper appreciation for the dedication and resilience required of good leaders. I see the same characteristics in the women we recognize in this issue.
Help me celebrate these professionals who lead, mentor, and strengthen our industry through collaboration and innovation! Learn about them and learn from them starting on page six.
