Setting aside your ego and being open to truly understanding someone regardless of culture , age , race or title creates a space where real value can be created for all involved .
Understanding how to effectively balance the pendulum of analysis and gut decision making as a young leader is key . In the early stages of your career , you do not have the deep pool of direct experiences to draw from that more senior leaders do for gut decision making , so you tend to lean into analysis . This is a good skill to develop , but it can also lead to “ paralysis by analyses ” resulting in missed opportunity , market share loss and can become a negative spiral as you don ’ t fail fast and grow . How have you managed your work / life balance ? MH : I ’ d be lying if I said that I had a good track record of work / life balance , this is continually a work in progress for me . What I have learned on my journey is to understand what truly recharges and re-grounds you and remove all obstacles that would prevent you from easily doing those activities . Also build a strong community – they are your pit stop crew and the crowd cheering you on all in one .
Finally , as I am sure is true for many in this industry , spending time on , in or under the water is so important . For me it ’ s cold plunges in the waterfalls of New Zealand , swimming in the ocean , diving off a boat , and scuba diving with the amazing marine life we have on this planet .
Where do you see your future headed ? MH : I love this industry and the global community I have been able to build over the years . While Propspeed just celebrated 25 years in business this year , there is a huge amount of energy , momentum and opportunity in this business that I look forward to leading into the next 25 years .
