DURING OUR THIRD QUARTER VISUAL SURVEY of off-premise stores across the country , we took note of the incidence of sustainable products sections within outlets . We collected data from more than 700 locations in 26 markets to determine how prevalent signage for sustainable products is within stores .

Nationally , 20 % of outlets ( of all types ) surveyed contained a sustainable products section . That ’ s not to say the others didn ’ t stock sustainable wines or spirits , they just didn ’ t call out those products separately .

Looking by outlet type , sustainable sections were most common within liquor stores , where they were found in 29 % of surveyed outlets . Only 9 % of grocery stores and 2 % of drug stores stocked sustainable products separately .

The markets where these sections were most prevalent included a number in the northeast ( Philadelphia , Northern NJ , Buffalo and Metro NY ). No outlets surveyed contained sustainable sections in Denver or Detroit , and few were found in St . Louis and Los Angeles .

Beyond tracking sustainable products at retail , the visual survey looked at an overview of stocking by brand and category , shelf facings , pricing and other in-store metrics important to industry members seeking the latest data and insights .
