Randall ' s Wines & Spirits has earned a place among Beverage Dynamics’ 2026 Top 100 Retailers, recognizing the Illinois and Missouri retailer for its continued growth, customer engagement and focus on product selection.
The company traces its roots to late‘ 90s, when George Randall identified an opening to combine beverage alcohol retailing with the emerging internet marketplace.
" Randall ' s Wines & Spirits was founded in 1998 by my father, who previously worked for distributor Paramount,” says Todd Randall, Director of Operations.“ As the internet began to grow, he recognized the opportunity to sell wine and spirits through the internet long before it became commonplace to do so.”
George opened the first Randall ' s Wines & Spirits store in Fairview Heights, IL, while simultaneously launching InternetWines. com to serve customers nationwide. He also obtained an import permit that allowed the company to bring wines and spirits directly into the U. S., offering products not widely available through traditional distribution channels.
The business expanded into Missouri in 2008 with its first St. Louis-area location. During the following 15 years, Randall ' s added stores throughout the region. In September 2025, a new ownership group acquired the company and continues to invest in its future growth.
According to Todd customer engagement remains one of the company’ s biggest competitive advantages.
" The biggest thing that worked for us was staying connected to our customers,” he says.“ In today ' s retail environment, you can ' t simply unlock the doors and expect people to come in. We focused on creating reasons for customers to visit our stores through new product releases, special buys, allocated items, and consistent communication. We utilize our social media and VIP email lists( over 60,000) to inform and educate customers. Not only with what products we have but also why they should be interested."
Randall ' s also continues to focus on value and differentiation, as consumer shopping habits evolve.
" We ' ve adapted by becoming more intentional in everything we do,” Todd says.“ That means carefully managing inventory while continuing to offer new items
and a selection that makes Randall ' s different from grocery stores and bigbox retailers."
Partnerships with buying groups including the Guild and Alliance have helped secure exclusive products and competitive pricing, while allowing the company to continue offering distinctive selections.
Tequila, ready-to-drink cocktails, cordials and liqueurs remain strong-performing categories across the business. Randall ' s has also experienced increased demand for 50−ml. bottles, citing convenience as a primary driver. Distributor closeout opportunities have become another important part of its merchandising strategy, allowing stores to offer premium products at reduced prices while giving customers new reasons to visit each week.
Social media also plays a central role in the company ' s marketing efforts.
" We use it every day to stay in front of our customers to showcase new products, announce allocated releases, promote events and highlight special deals,” Todd explains.“ Today ' s customers want to know what ' s going on, and social media allows us to have those conversations in real time. It ' s one of the best ways we ' ve found to build relationships."
Beyond retail operations, Randall ' s supports local charitable organizations. One organization the company highlights is STL Hero Network, which assists first responders, veterans and their families during times of need.
Looking ahead, Randall ' s plans to continue building on its current momentum while pursuing additional growth opportunities.
" While the industry continues to face challenges, we ' re optimistic about the future,” says Todd.“ Independent retailers have always had to adapt, and that ' s something we ' ve become accustomed to. Our focus heading into 2027 is to build on what ' s worked for us in 2026 while continuing to improve every aspect of our business. Also, we ' re excited about the opportunities for expansion with growth plans already in motion for the coming year and beyond."
