This snow bike study takes a peek into the growth of this cutting-edge technology. Models and parts in this study have been derived from VIN or part decoding. Models that have not been defined by the manufac- turer in the VIN number do not appear in this study. DTS kits that have not been identified as such are not included in this study. More than 50 DTS kits were researched in this study. Only kits that were sold have been included. DIRT-TO-SNOW KITS SOLD BY MONTH The "Percent of Total Dirt-to-Snow Kits Sold by Month" chart trends out the seasonal- ity of when these kits were purchased by the consumers over the last two years. Each month is reported as a percentage of the total sales that occurred between Aug. 1, 2015 and July 31, 2017. The purchase of dirt to snow kits increased 240 percent in the 2016-17 selling season, compared to 2015-16. This product has not hit is peak, and consumers are showing interest. The trend over time of DTS kit purchases follows a similar curve as the sales of new snowmobiles, though on a much smaller scale. Sales start to increase in October and begin to decrease in January. Purchases hit their peak in December of 2016, when 25 percent of the kits were purchased or installed. Twenty-five percent is the equivalent of 280 purchases in that month. So far, the majority of purchases have been isolated to a small region, with most happening in the Rocky Mountains. With many more DTS packages hitting the market for the 2017-18 season, consumers will have more options available.
