Ice Road Although most of its curves and hills are gentle and its speed limit is a modest 90 km /h (56 mph), mile-for-mile the Icefields Parkway packs in some of the best scenery you'll find anywhere. Covering 144 miles in Alberta, Canada, from Lake Louise in the south to Jasper in the north, Highway 93 passes through Banff and Jasper national parks, which make up part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. With rugged mountains rising up on both sides, the road follows a long valley that provides one postcard view after another—pristine blue lakes, roaring waterfalls, dense evergreen forests and the ancient glaciers that give the road its name. This south-facing view is from the Big Hill overlook, on the way up to 6,677-foot Sunwapta Pass.
